How To Make Interviewers See You As The Right “Fit” For The Job — 5 Tips
If you’ve ever been in an interview where you just couldn’t seem to show the interviewer that you’re the best person for the job
Or you thought things went well but weren’t offered the job, then the interviewer probably didn’t see you as the right ‘fit’ for the job.
There’s a definite strategy for helping the interviewer come to the decision that you’re the right candidate for the job.
Using it, at best you’ll be offered the job. At worst you’ll be considered a strong candidate. You may even be offered another position because you impressed the interviewer so much.
So today I’m going to go through it with you.
First up…
If you go into the interview with the hiring manager already thinking you’re a strong candidate for the job, then it makes the interview so much easier for you.
The way to do this is to use Connectzapp to find your next job.
When you do, the hiring manager can see that you’re a great candidate for the role, so they’ll already be interested in you and may even be thinking you’re the person they want to hire, even before they’ve met you.
You open Connectzapp on your phone or go to connectzapp.com, enter the details of the role you’re after and you’re then given a list of jobs best suited to you, ranked with the best match at the top.
Each employer can see you’re a great candidate for the job, so they WANT to talk to you.
This puts you in a strong position going into the interview, which is a great position to be in!
So get connectzapp on the App Store or Google Play or go toConnectzap.com and give yourself an advantage from the start.
Secondly…
Before you sit down for the interview, do your homework on the company.
Check them out online, check the social media profiles of their key people.
Find out if the company has been in the news, and if it has, what was reported about it?
Ask people in your network what they can tell you about the company.
The more you can find out about the company, the better. And the more informed and interested you’ll come across in the interview, which will impress the hiring manager.
Thirdly…
Use what you find out about the company and its people to come up with a compelling reason as to why the company should hire you.
What this is will obviously depend on the role you’re applying for, but rest assured that whatever role you’re applying for, there is a compelling reason you can use in the interview.
You just have to come up with it.
For example…
For Sales or management roles, it’s easy to come up with a compelling reason to hire you. You’ll increase sales or lower costs. So think about how you’re going to do that.
For a role that’s less directly linked to revenue, like an admin role for example, there are other ways you can show how valuable you’ll be.
I cover how to do this in 2 different ways in the videos on how to answer the interview questions–
- Why Do You Want This Job
- Where Do You See Yourself In 5 Years videos
Each video has a different way to make a compelling reason as to you why the employer should hire you, so go to Connectzapp.com and check them out. It’ll be worth your time.
The fourth thing is…
Sell yourself in the interview.
Remember, an interview is a sales presentation. It’s not a Q & A session where you’re there to just answer the hiring manager’s questions then leave.
Your job is to sell the hiring manager on why you’re the best person for the job.
And to be offered the job you need to SELL the hiring manager on why YOU are the best person for the job.
This is where your homework on the company and your compelling reason or reasons for them to hire you, come into play.
Which leads to the fifth thing, which is…
Be engaging and confident in the interview.
Most employers will take the more engaging and confident candidate, even if their skill level is a bit lower.
People who have the right skills but give the hiring manager the impression that they won’t engage well with others on their team, tend to be overlooked for a more engaging candidate.
So be engaged in the conversation. Be friendly, hold eye contact with the hiring manager and very importantly, ask questions of your own in the interview. Questions shouldn’t just flow one way from the interviewer.
If you’re not sure what questions to ask, watch my video — 8 Questions to ask hiring managers. In it I cover the best questions to ask, that not only give you a good idea of what it’s like to work at the company, but will also impress the hiring manager when you ask them, so go to Connectzapp.com and check it out.
So there are your 5 tips on how to have the hiring manager see you as the right fit for the job.
Give them a try. They’ve worked for others so they’ll work for you.
If you think this has been helpful, please give it a clap.
And as always…
Good luck with your job hunting!
