So let’s take a look at what they are.

Even if you don’t have direct experience in the role you’re after, you may still have a lot of the skills required for the job.

Look at the must have skills you need for the job and compare then to the skills you have.

Notice I didn’t say experience in the job.

The experience you have for the job may be from other things you’ve done in the past, and not necessarily at work.

Maybe some of the experience you have for the job has come from a hobby or some other activity you’ve done in the past, or maybe still do.

The skills and experience you have for the job you really want could come from complementary jobs or hobbies, but they’re still relevant.

So do a stock take of the skills and experience you have that you can use in the job you want.

If you need to do some extra study, then do what you need to do.

It’s now possible to mix and match subjects at tertiary institutions, so do what you need to do, so you can show employers you know what you need to know for the job.
