Baggage Handler job description
A baggage handler collects, checks and sorts luggage for airlines and cruise ships. They typically work at an airport or cruise ship terminal or dock.
An airport baggage handler ensures passenger luggage is correctly loaded onto the aircraft, or unloaded and delivered to its owner via the airport baggage carousels.
Duties:
- Using trucks, cargo loaders and conveyor systems, move luggage or freight to and from aircraft
- Ensure luggage, cargo or freight are loaded onto the correct aircraft
- Ensure luggage is unloaded from aircraft and delivered to the correct carousel for delivery to passengers
- Store cargo and freight in warehouses to be ready for distribution
Requirements:
- Good fitness
- Strength to lift heavy bags and items
- Ability to work within a team
- Willingness to work shift work that includes early mornings, nights, weekends and public holidays
- Ability to work quickly
- Reliability and honesty
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions
