When you’re in an interview, there are certain questions the interviewer is not allowed to ask you.

• What’s your nationality?
• What race are you?
• What’s your background?
• Where is your family from?

Questions around race are a no-no in interviews.

These are questions like-

• Are you religious?
• What’s your religion?
• What church do you go to?

In most countries, it’s illegal to be discriminated against over your religion or beliefs.

Some of the questions around this are-

• Do you own your own home?
• Do you rent?
• Do you live in an apartment or house?
• Do you have any living with you?
• Do you live alone?
• Do you live with your parents?

These are questions like-

• Are you male?
• Are you female?

These can include-

• What year were you born?
• How old are you?
• When is your birthday?

The reason these questions are illegal in most countries is because they have no bearing on your ability to do the job.

The reason questions are illegal is because legislators have deemed them discriminatory.

However, there are employers who will ask some of these illegal questions for the wrong reasons.
