Choosing a career path can be daunting, particularly if you’re young and still have no idea what you want to do or should do for your career.

They are whether you’re looking for-

- A career
- Or a Calling
A job is really just about making money. In other words, you get a job now because you need the money to live.
There’s nothing wrong with that.
The job you choose may not be what you particularly like to do or see your self doing for the long term, but it may pay well at the moment or suit you to do it for the time being.
A career is something you decide to do for a longer period of time.
You may not have the same career all your working life. You may have 2 or 3 in your lifetime.
A career is something you may need to train or study for.
You may decide to have a certain career for a decade or so, then decide you want to move into something else.
It can take some adjustments to change careers, but plenty of people do it, and so can you if or when you decide you want to change.
So a career isn’t necessarily something you’re locked into for the rest of your life, but it IS something you’ll do for a longer period that just a job.
A Calling is when you’re passionate about something and know you want to do that for the rest of your life because it’s so rewarding for you. A calling is something that defines you.
Most people don’t have a calling, but when you do, you generally know it.
So the first step or tip for you is to decide what you want to do.
Do you just want a job?
Do you want a career, keeping in mind that you may decide to change careers in 10 or 15 years?
Or do you know what your calling is? If you do, then go and do it!
Tip number 2 is you need to recognize what you’ll like to do.
The best way to do this is to write a list of the things you like to do.
Making your list over time is fine. You don’t need to do it in one sitting.
So what do you like to do that you’re good at? These could be skills, experiences or anything you’ve done, that you enjoy.
Then think about how you can incorporate your list into a career.
Another way to help you write your list is to think of the people you admire. In other words, who are your heroes?
- Why do you admire them?
- What do they do?
- Would you do something similar?
- Would you like to model what they’ve done?
Add to your list what feels right for you.
Then tip number 3 is to consider what you shouldn’t do.
Do you feel obliged to do a particular thing, but deep down know it’s not right for you?
Are you concerned that what you choose won’t be approved by some important people in your life?

It may be fine for you to do that thing for a while, but at some point, the fact that it’s not really your passion will catch up with you and cause issues in your life.
